MENTORSHIP PROGRAM CONCLUDES WITH BOWLING PARTY
Mar 22, 2017Six months ago, three Jr. Comets teams came to the Utica Memorial Auditorium to participate in the mentorship draft. That evening, every player on the 2004 AAA, 2006 AAA, and 2006 AA Utica Jr. Comets teams were selected in a draft by players from the AHL’s Utica Comets. Each Comet player drafted two Jr. Comets players to mentor for the duration of the season.
Throughout the season, friendships were formed between the Jr. Comets and Comets through text messages and planned time together. Jr. Comets players would join their mentors on the ice during their youth hockey practices or even head out for a bite to eat together. Friendships have continued to strengthen, with last night capping off another successful year of the mentorship program.
The Comets players joined their mentors at AMF Pin-O-Rama for an evening of bowling and pizza. It was a great way to conclude another successful year both on and off the ice for the Jr. Comets. Although there was some spirited competition on the lanes, everyone was there to celebrate new friendships that were formed over the last six months.
This season marked the first year of the mentorship program for Garrett Eisenhut, a member of the 2004 team. “I knew about the mentorship program even though this is my first year and when we did the draft. I was very excited to see who my mentor would be,” Garrett remembers.
His mentor was Ashton Sautner this season and the two formed a great relationship with frequently exchanged text messages to wish each other good luck in their games. The two even brushed up on their bowling skills a couple weeks ago when bowling together prior to this week.
“I really enjoyed the mentorship program this season. Getting to know Ashton was awesome,” Garrett remarked.
The Utica Comets and Jr. Comets would like to thank AMF Pin-O-Rama for helping run a great event.
