Comets Welcome Newest Member To Family – Cayson Arthur Robak
Feb 23, 2017Colby and Colleen Robak just celebrated a Valentine's Day to remember, by becoming parents for the very first time.
After last Wednesday's Comets' game at The AUD with the Toronto Marlies, Colby Robak appeared relaxed. Skating throughout the 60 minutes of play on home ice, Robak enjoyed the fact that he and his mates collected a 5-2 victory over a fellow North Division foe. The two points gained brought the Comets within four points of Toronto in the standings.
The calmness surrounding Robak detected as he addressed members of the local media after Wednesday's game wasn't attributed solely to hockey finesse. A day earlier, the Comets' defenseman had a Valentine's Day date at St. Luke's Memorial Hospital over on Champlin Avenue, three miles from The AUD.
"I was speechless," explains Robak on witnessing the birth of his son Cayson Arthur Robak at 2:10 a.m. "You wait nine months, and then he's here; a little man."
Robak's description of that "crazy, long day" will not soon be forgotten. "When I heard him cry, my whole world stopped."
Cayson Arthur measured in at 21.5 inches long and weighed 7.6 lbs.
The Robaks have been engulfed with support from all directions. Tips on parenting, according to Colby, have him hitting the ground running. No doubt, some of those suggestions came from his parents who were in Utica this past week. "On Monday, when they (Robak's parents) were walking out the door, is when Colleen's water broke," says Robak.
And when Robak, who joined the Comets early last November says that "it still hasn't sunk in" (joining the parenthood ranks), his search for additional ways to discuss his jubilance catches up with him. The late night/early morning stay as St. Luke's could have caused Robak to be a bit on the sluggish side, when the Comets practiced that same day. Could have, that is.
"Greener (Comets' coach Travis Green) gave me the day off," says Robak.
As for Wednesday's clash with the Marlies, Robak was able to prepare to a somewhat normal routine, with the exception being taking his pre-game nap at the hospital.
Robak thought about possibly collecting some items, such as a newspaper, for Cayson Arthur to keep, for when remembering what went on in the world on his birthday. "Someone crocheted a little knit hat for (Cayson). It's great," explains Robak.
As for how the Robaks' son's name came to be, much thought was given. "Arthur was my grandfather's name, who passed away last season. Colleen came across Cayson, while on Pinterest," Robak tells.
Now, along with Colby and Coleen's engagement announcement on September 22, 2015, and their wedding day of July 9, 2016, February 14, 2017 can be added to their family lineage. Three's company for the Robak's is anything but a crowd.
