COMETS SHUTOUT BY CRUNCH
Nov 16, 2018Utica, N.Y. – Despite throwing 34 shots on goal, the Comets were shutout 4-0 by the Syracuse Crunch Friday night at the Adirondack Bank Center. Ivan Kulbakov got the start but was pulled in favor of Connor LaCouvee after surrendering 3 goals on 13 shots. Kulbakov’s record falls to 5-5-2 on the season.
Cory Conacher broke the scoreless deadlock with five minutes to go in the first period. Alex Barre-Boulet made it 2-0 on the power play three minutes later. The Comets had numerous chances to end the first but Crunch netminder Connor Ingram was up to the task.
Brady Brassart made it 3-0 four minutes into the second period. LaCouvee replaced Kulbakov in net after the goal. Tanner MacMaster was awarded a penalty shot halfway through the second period but was unable to convert. Carter Bancks appeared to have scored with 1:30 to go in the period, but the goal was waved off.
The Comets had several chances in the final frame to find the end but were once again shut down by Ingram. Alexander Volkov sealed the win with an empty net goal with 2:51 to go in the third.
The Comets are back at it tomorrow night when they hit the road to face the Hartford Wolf Pack. Puck drop at the XL Center is at 7 p.m. The game can be heard on 94.9 KROCK and viewed on AHLTV.
