Tonight’s Game: The Utica Comets take on the Providence Bruins for the first time this season. Puck drops at 3:05 p.m.
Last Game: The Utica Comets fell to the Providence Bruins by a score of 3-2 in overtime Saturday night at the Dunkin Donuts Center. The first period went scoreless thanks to the efforts of Thatcher Demko and Jordan Binnington. Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson netted the first goal of the game two minutes into the second period. Rob O’Gara and Jakub Zboril were credited with the assists. Cam Darcy tied the game at the 6:28 mark of the middle frame with a power play goal. Guillaume Brisebois and Zack MacEwen tallied the assists. Michael Carcone put the Comets up 2-1 five minutes into the third period with an unassisted goal. Connor Clifton tied the game at two with a shorthanded goal. Austin Czarnik had the assist. Neither team could find a winner in regulation and the game would go to overtime. Jordan Szwarz scored the game-winning goal with 39 second remaining in overtime. Czarnik and Kenny Agostino collected the assists. Demko finished with 32 saves and his record falls to 8-5-3.
Head-to-Head: This is the second time the two teams face off this season. Providence took the first meeting 3-2 in overtime last night. Utica is 4-2-1 all time against the Bruins.
Scouting the Bruins: Providence comes in with a record of 15-6-2 and sit in first place in the Atlantic Division. Austin Czarnik leads the offense with 20 points, followed by Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson with 17 points. Jordan Binnington leads the goaltenders with a record of 6-1-1, a 1.84 goals- against average, and a .933% save percentage.
White Hot: With a goal last night, Cam Darcy extended his point streak to a career long five games. Darcy has collected one goal and five assists during his streak. The forward has collected a total of one goal and nine assists so far this season.
Road Warriors: The Comets have been extremely good on the road this season. Utica has picked up points in four straight road games and hold a record of 7-4-1 away from the Adirondack Bank Center.
Balanced Attack: The Comets offense has come from all over the roster so far this season. Utica has eight players with 10 or more points. All eight players have seven or more assists and three with seven or more goals.
Power Outage: Utica continues to struggle on the power play. The Comets have gone 1-16 on the man advantages over the last three games. The power play ranks ninth in the league at 18.6%.
