COMETS RALLY TO BEAT MARLIES IN SHOOTOUT

Utica, N.Y. – The Utica Comets defeated the Toronto Marlies by a score of 3-2 in a shootout Friday night at the Adirondack Bank Center.

Martin Marincin put the Marlies up 1-0 four minutes into the game, putting a shot past Thatcher Demko. Pierre Engvall and Trevor Moore were credited with the assists.

Vincent LoVerde extended the lead to 2-0 with a power play goal at the 12:46 mark of the second period. Jeremy Bracco and Andrew Nielsen had the assists. Cole Cassels cut the lead to 2-1 three minutes later, burying a rebound past Marlies goaltender Calvin Pickard. Tony Cameranesi and Dylan Blujus tallied the assists.

Lukas Jasek tied the game at two with a power play goal with six minutes to go in the third period. Michael Chaput and Patrick Wiercioch picked up the assists. Demko and Pickard kept the game scoreless from there to send the game to overtime for the second straight night.

Overtime did not yield a winner and the game would go to a shootout.

Cole Cassels scored the lone goal in the shootout, and Demko stopped all three shots he faced to secure the win.

Demko finished with 37 saves to improve his record to 24-12-6. Pickard stopped 20 shots. His record falls to 20-9-1. The Comets power play went 1-3, while the penalty kill gave up one goal in four attempts.

The Comets are back at it tomorrow night as they hit the road to faceoff against the Syracuse Crunch in Game 11 of the Galaxy Cup series. Puck drop at the Onondaga County War Memorial Arena is at 7 p.m. The game can be heard on 94.9 KROCK and viewed on AHL Live.
