Tonight’s Game: The Utica Comets battle the Rochester Americans. Puck drop is at 7:05 p.m.
Last Game: The Utica Comets fell to the Providence Bruins 4-3 in overtime Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin Donuts Center. Alexis D’Aoust drew first blood two and a half minutes into the game, deflecting a shot from Guillaume Brisebois. Brendan Woods also had an assist on the play. Jesse Gabrielle tied it up at one with 1:54 remaining in the first period. Reid Boucher put the Comets up 2-1 at the 7:50 mark of the second period. Jayson Megna tallied the assist. Boucher netted his second goal of the night six minutes into the third period on the power play. Patrick Wiercioch and Cam Darcy picked up the assists. Darcy extended his point streak to six games with the assist. Josh Hennessy cut the Comets’ lead to 3-2 at the 11:53 mark of the third period.. Rob O’Gara tied the game at three just two minutes later. Kenny Agostino scored a lightning fast 26 seconds into overtime to secure the win with the assist credited to Cross. Richard Bachman finished with 27 saves and his record falls to 2-5-1.
Head-to-Head: The Comets lead the season series 4-0-1. Utica won the most recent matchup 2-1 in overtime on November 29 and is outscoring the Amerks 15-8 this season. The Comets are 24-15-1-1 all time against Rochester.
Scouting the Americans: Rochester comes into tonight’s contest with a record of 14-5-6, most recently defeating the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 4-1 on Sunday. C.J. Smith leads the offense with 25 points, followed by Sahir Gill with 17 points. Linus Ullmark is the leading goaltender with a record of 11-3-3, a 2.63 goals-against average, and a .920% save percentage.
On Fire: Cam Darcy is rolling on offense and shows no signs of slowing up. Darcy carries a career-high six-game point streak into tonight, collecting one goal and six assists overtime that timespan. The forward has totaled one goal and 10 assists on the season.
Climbing the Ranks: Reid Boucher’s recent tear has seen him skyrocket up the league leaderboard. Boucher is tied for second in the AHL with 13 goals and ranks ninth in points with 24.
Road Rules: The Comets have been one of the better teams when away from home this season. Utica is riding a five-game road point streak into tonight and holds a record of 7-4-2 away from the Adirondack Bank Center this season.
Putting In Overtime: Despite having points in five straight road games, the Comets have not won a game in regulation in almost three weeks. The last regulation win came on November 24 in a 3-2 win over Laval. In addition, six of the last seven games for the Comets have needed overtime or a shootout to decide a winner.
