Utica, N.Y. – The Comets jumped out to an early lead but Laval stormed back with three goals in the second to take control as Utica fell 4-3 Wednesday night at the Adirondack Bank Center. Tanner Kero scored twice for the Comets and Ivan Kulbakov stopped 18 shots as his record fell to 4-3-1.

The Comets dominated the opening frame and were rewarded with an extended five-on-three power play. Kero wasted no time as he blasted a back door feed from Jonathan Dahlen past Rocket netminder Michael McNiven. Olli Juolevi also picked up an assist. Kero struck again 54 seconds later, depositing a rebound off a Guillaume Brisebois shot. Michael Carcone added an assist on the goal as well.

Alexandre Grenier cut Utica’s lead in half three minutes into the second period, poking a rebound past Kulbakov. Daniel Audette knotted things up with a power play goal four minutes later. Alexandre Alain gave Laval their first lead of the night just 14 seconds later. The wild period continued when Zack MacEwen tied the game at three one minute later. Juolevi and Dahlen were credited with the assists.

Michael Chaput put Laval back on top eight minutes into the third period, tipping a shot past Kulbakov. The Comets furiously fought to tie the game up but were doomed by penalty trouble late in the game.

The Comets are back in action Friday night as they host the Hartford Wolf Pack on Purple Heart Night. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to use the ticket exchange website, StubHub!. The game can be heard on 94.9 KROCK and viewed on AHL TV.
