Tonight’s Game: The Utica Comets go toe-to-toe with the Binghamton Devils. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
Last Game: The Comets struck twice in the first five minutes of the game, but it would not be enough as Utica surrendered four unanswered goals in a 4-3 loss to the Rochester Americans Saturday night at the Adirondack Bank Center. Vincent Arseneau, Nikolay Goldobin, and Brogan Rafferty all scored for Utica. Zane McIntyre made 18 saves in the loss.
Head to Head: This is the sixth meeting already between the Comets and Devils this season. Utica leads the season series 4-1-0-0 and won the most recent contest 3-2 in overtime back on November 9. Reid Boucher and Ben Street are tied for the series lead with six point apiece.
Scouting the Devils: Binghamton comes in with a record of 6-8-3-0 and sits in last place in the North Division. They most recently dropped a 3-2 contest to the Springfield Thunderbirds this past Saturday. Ben Street leads the offense with 20 points, followed by Brett Seney with 16 points. Gilles Senn is the top active goalie with a record of 3-3-1, a 2.95 goals-against average, and a .891 save percentage.
Potent Offense: The Comets’ offense has been lethal against the Devils this season. Through five games, Utica has scored 17 goals against Binghamton, led by Reid Boucher with four. 12 Comets players have scored at least one goal and 16 players have recorded at least a point against the Devils this season.
Red Hot: Reid Boucher cannot be stopped. Boucher has recorded at least one point in all but two games he’s played in this season and has five points (3-2-5) in his last two games. The forward leads the AHL in goals (13) as well. Overall, Boucher has 18 points (13-5-18) in 11 games.
Dish-Master: Nikolay Goldobin is known more as a pass-first type of player, so it’s no surprise that he is at the top of the leaderboards. Goldobin leads the Comets in assists this season with 12 and is tied for sixth in the AHL. Overall, the forward has 16 points (4-12-16) in 15 games this season.
Strong Start: Brogan Rafferty continues to make a good impression n Utica’s blue line. Rafferty has four points (1-3-4) in his last six games and leads all Comets’ defensemen in points. The rookie defender has nine points (2-7-9) in 16 games this season.
Next Game: The Comets are back at it Friday night on the road against the Laval Rocket. Puck drop at Place Bell is at 7:30 p.m. The game can be heard on 94.9 KROCK and viewed on AHL TV.
