COMETS EXTEND POINT STREAK TO FOUR GAMES
Mar 3, 2023Utica, NY. – The Comets, winners of their last three games, stepped back onto home ice since the middle of February to a raucous crowd inside the Adirondack Bank Center faced off against the Charlotte Checkers for the last time in the regular season. While the game was highly competitive and headed into overtime, the Comets only got the single point in the 2-1 loss.
In the opening period, the Comets Jack Dugan started the scoring taking the cross-ice pass and firing the puck passed JF Berube at 9:55. The goal was setup by Ryan Schmelzer and Sam Laberge who continued his point streak now making it four games. Dugan’s goal was his 11th of the season and it put the Comets up, 1-0.
After a scoreless second period, the Checkers scored in the final period of regulation to tie the contest at 1-1 after a one-timer by Grigori Denisenko sailed into the cage behind Comets goalie, Isaac Poulter. The goal at 5:20 equaled the game at 1-1. That would be the final goal of regulation and the game headed to overtime.
In the extra session, the Checkers got a goal from Aleki Hemponiemi and ended the contest. The Comets took a point in their fourth straight game.
