COMETS DROP DEFENSIVE BATTLE TO DEVILS

Utica, N.Y. – The Utica Comets fell to the Binghamton Devils by a score of 2-1 Friday night at the Adirondack Bank Center.

Nathan Bastian netted the first goal of the game with 1:44 remaining in the opening frame, firing a bad angle shot that somehow slipped through the pads of Thatcher Demko. Austin Cangelosi and Jacob MacDonald had the assists.

The defensive battle continued into a scoreless second period, with neither team being able to convert on their two power play opportunities.

Blake Pietila extended the lead to 2-0 with four minutes remaining in the game, putting in a rebound of the glass. Jacob MacDonald and Yaroslav Dyblenko were credited with the assists. McEneny brought the game to within one at the 18:48 mark of the third period. Philip and Nikolay Goldobin tallied the assists. Despite a late power play, the Comets were unable to find an equalizer.

Demko finished with 18 saves. Appleby stopped 25 of 26 shots. The Comets power play went 0-5, while the penalty kill did not allow a goal in three attempts.

The Comets are back in action tomorrow night against the Rochester Americans. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to utilize the ticket exchange website, StubHub!.
