COMETS, DEVILS MEET IN PRESEASON DUEL
Sep 27, 2019The Utica Comets begin a preseason doubleheader with the Binghamton Devils tonight at 7 p.m. at the Adirondack Bank Center.
The Comets finished last season with 64 points and a record of 34-34-6-2, ending the year in sixth place in the North Division. Binghamton ended the 2018-19 campaign with a 28-41-7-0, good for 63 points and last place in the North Division.
The Devils topped the Comets in last year’s season series, taking five of the eight contests between the North Division rivals. The Devils outscored the Comets 29-24. Reid Boucher and Binghamton’s Michael McLeod led the series with seven points apiece.
COMETS PLAYERS TO WATCH
Reid Boucher – The Comets’ leading scorer from last season is back for his third season in Utica after breaking the team’s single season goal record (31) for the second straight season. The forward finished with 62 points last season, Pascal Pelletier for the team record.
Mikey DiPietro – Vancouver’s highly touted goaltending prospect is set to make his Utica debut after finishing 23-12-0 with a .911 save percentage and 2.40 goals-against average split between Ottawa and Oshawa in the OHL last season. DiPietro has a game of NHL experience under his belt, but look for him to hone his craft this season with the Comets.
DEVILS PLAYERS TO WATCH
Brandon Gignac – Gignac is the Devils’ leading returning scorer after finishing with 36 points (12-24-36) in 66 games.
Colton White – White had a breakout season on the back end for Binghamton last season. The defenseman tallied 30 points (7-23-30) in 71 games last year.
The two teams will be back at it tomorrow night for a rematch in Binghamton. Puck drop at the Floyd L. Maines Veteran’s Memorial Arena is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Fans can catch the game on YouTube.
