Comets Coat Drive
By Mark Caswell Jr.
Dec 4, 2015The Utica Comets are proud to announce their involvement in the Rob Esche “Save of the Day” Foundation coat drive, led by Darren Archibald and “Archie’s Army”. The coat drive will take place during Comets home games on Dec. 4 vs. St John’s, Dec. 11 vs. Toronto, and Dec. 16 vs. Rochester.
Comets fans are encouraged to bring new, or very lightly used coats to the Fan Zone table, located behind section 205. All donated coats will be donated to the Thea Bowman House by Comets forward Darren Archibald.
“The city of Utica has shown endless love and support for our team”, said Archibald. “This jacket drive is a way of giving back to kids in need to ensure they stay warm all winter long.”
The Thea Bowman House has been serving low-income, at-risk children and families in and around the city of Utica for many years. The not-for-profit organization provides quality care to some of our community’s most vulnerable children and youth with hopes of breaking the cycle of poverty through a structured program of educational and social enrichment.
The Thea Bowman House began in 1986 as Agape House, an after school program for latch key children in the west Utica area, and continued to expand their programs, becoming the Thea Bowman House in 1996. Today the organization operates out of two sites in the city of Utica, one at 731 Lafayette Street and the other at the former St. Francis de Sales School at 309 Genesee Street. The Thea Bowman House currently serves over 300 children ages 18 months through 18 years.
