COMETS CAN'T OVERCOME SLOW START IN LOSS TO BRIDGEPORT
Dec 13, 2019Utica, NY – The Comets surrendered three goals in the opening frame and couldn’t recover as they fell to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 4-3 Friday night at the Adirondack Bank Center. Reid Boucher, Jonah Gadjovich, and Carter Camper scored for the Comets. Boucher’s goal tied Darren Archibald’s team record for career goals scored. Zane McIntyre made 19 saves in the loss.
Travis St. Denis struck first for Bridgeport with a power play goal halfway through the first period. John Stevens made it 2-0 Bridgeport with five minutes to go in the first, deflecting a shot past McIntyre. Stevens scored shorthanded at the 16:40 mark of the first to put the Sound Tigers up 3-0. Boucher got the Comets on the board with 1:36 to go in the first, depositing a back-door pass from Sven Baertschi.
Unlike the first period, not much offense was generated in the middle frame until Kieffer Bellows widened Bridgeport’s lead to 4-1 with 55 seconds to play in the period.
Gadjovich put the Comets within two with a wrister from the left circle on the power play with 12:21 to go in the third. Nikolay Goldobin and Carter Camper notched the assists. Camper beat Bridgeport goalie Jared Coreau with a snap shot from the right circle on the power play to cut the Comets’ deficit to one with 2:40 to play. The Comets threw everything they had at Coreau in an effort to tie the game, but the Sound Tigers stayed strong and held on for the win.
The Comets go right back at it tomorrow night against the Binghamton Devils. Puck drop at the Floyd L. Maines Veteran’s Memorial Arena is at 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard on 94.9 KROCK and viewed on AHL TV.
