COMETS FALL TO SENATORS IN ROAD FINALE
Apr 14, 2018Belleville, ON – The Utica Comets fell to the Belleville Senators by a score of 3-1 Saturday night at Yardmen Arena.
Mike Blunden scored seven minutes into the game to take a 1-0 lead, poking a rebound past Richard Bachman. Ville Pokka and Eric Selleck had the assists. Willie Corrin tied the game at one with 3:34 to go in the first, firing a backhander past Senators goaltender Marcus Hogberg. Andrew Cherniwchan and Kole Lind tallied the assists. The goal was Corrin’s first as a Comet and the assist for Lind was his first professional point.
Ryan Scarfo made it 2-1 Senators with 6:48 to go in the second period. David Dziurzynski and Pokka were credited with the assists.
Jack Rodewald extended the lead to 3-1 at the 10:51 mark of the third period. Scarfo collected the lone assist. The Comets threated with chances late, peppering Hogberg with 15 shots in the final period, but were unable to find the net.
Bachman finished with 24 saves and his record falls to 13-13-5. Hogberg stopped 37 shots. His record improves to 6-12-0. The Comets power play went 0-3, while the penalty kill did not allow a goal in two attempts.
