CHAPUT TALLIES THREE POINTS AS COMETS SINK AMERKS IN OVERTIME
Mar 28, 2018Rochester, N.Y. – The Utica Comets defeated the Rochester Americans by a score of 3-2 in overtime Wednesday at Blue Cross Arena.
Frankie Simonelli put the Comets up 1-0 halfway through the first period, squeaking a slap shot past Americans goaltender Adam Wilcox. Michael Chaput and Patrick Wiercioch tallied the assists on the power play goal.
Zach Redmond tied the game at one three minutes into the second period, putting a wrister past Thatcher Demko on the power play. Danny O’Regan and Sahir Gill were credited with the assists. Chaput put the Comets back on top with another power play goal at the 14:32 mark of the second period. Simonelli and Wiercioch picked up the assists.
Seth Griffith tied the game at two with 16:15 to go in the third period. Colin Blackwell and Kevin Porter collected the assists. Demko and Wilcox were perfect for the remainder of the period to send the game to overtime.
Chaput scored the game-winning goal with 1:24 remaining in overtime to give the Comets their third win in their last four games.
Demko finished with 31 saves to improve his record to 23-12-6. Wilcox stopped 19 shots. His record falls to 11-7-7. The Comets power play went 2-6, while the penalty kill allowed two goals in four attempts.
